THE LAW AWARDS OF SCOTLAND 2008 IN ASSOCIATION WITH REGISTERS OF SCOTLAND

The Law Awards of Scotland, in association with Registers of Scotland, is now in its fifth year and we have great pleasure to be working in partnership with Registers of Scotland as, together, we look to recognise and reward excellence in the Scottish legal arena.
Using our evaluation process including feedback from the profession we have made some developments to the Law Awards this year.

In addition to our new headline sponsor we would like to welcome The Law Society of Scotland, supporting one of our new categories this year, Corporate Social Responsibility Firm of the Year. And welcome to Practicecare. We also welcome back; Bank of Ireland, Central Law Training, Society of Specialist Paralegals, Instruct Counsel, Professional Office Supplies, Stirling Park, The Herald, The WS Society, Axiom Business Computers and LexisNexis Visualfiles and Interaction, Simpson & Marwick and Towry Law Financial Services as category sponsors.

We have introduced two other new categories for 2008 ensuring the Law Awards of Scotland remains the most comprehensive independent awards in the Scottish Legal Sector. These new categories are Marketing Team of the Year and Intellectual Property Lawyer of the Year.

Another development for 2008 is that the Law Awards of Scotland will move to a new venue. After four very successful years at the Crowne Plaza, we have now outgrown that particular venue and will be held at the prestigious Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Thursday 18 September.

Our first round of independent research is now completed. Key business leaders, law firms and clients were asked to rate who they felt were the best law firms and individuals in Scotland.

We now have a shortlist of firms and individuals who were rated in the research. Those law firms and individuals have been invited to submit a report, which will go in front of a panel of esteemed judges. The panel includes: Bill Frame Bell, QC, Ian Truscott, QC, John Forsyth, HBOS plc, Janet Hood, BII Scotland, John Sturrock QC, and Robert Pirrie, The WS Society.

The panel will ultimately decide which firms and individuals deserve to receive the coveted awards. Judging will take place shortly and the short list will be annouced inJuly.

Tables are now available, to secure your place please contact Lisa Murdoch on 0141 559 6063 or via Email.

I look forward to seeing you at the Law Awards of Scotland dinner in September.

Richard Draycott, Editor – The Firm
