THE SOCIETY OF SPECIALIST PARALEGALS

The Society of Specialist Paralegals is the alumni organisation for the over 4,000 graduates of the Specialist Paralegal Training Programme provided by CLT in association with the University of Strathclyde and the University of the West of England. We are once again delighted to be sponsoring the Paralegal of the Year award at this year’s Law Awards of Scotland event.

Membership of the Society sets our graduates apart as having undertaken specialist academic training and formal examination in line with current government policy on widening access to education. The training provided in association with the Universities is currently the gold standard in paralegal training and allows graduates to be distinguished by the use of the designation M.S.S.P.

Membership benefits also include a dedicated quarterly magazine, created exclusively for Strathclyde graduate paralegals. The Specialist Paralegal Magazine features news, comment and professional update pieces from key figures within the legal profession, as well as profile and interview pieces on paralegals from all walks of life. Members also receive substantial discounts across the entire CLT Conference and Seminar Programme, to ensure paralegals are constantly updated on current changes and practices. A dedicated website is currently undergoing expansion and will contain a discussion forum, online bulletins and a recruitment section as well as details of current CPD courses.

Specialist Paralegals now form the backbone of the Scottish legal profession, making significant contributions not only in the legal world but within local authorities, educational establishments, human resources, commerce and industry.

Graduations are held biannually at the University of Strathclyde. New graduates, together with family/friends, are joined by university dignitaries, fellow academics, tutors and members of CLT staff in celebrating their achievement in the magnificent surroundings of the University’s Barony Hall.
