Title defenders

Can the Glasgow Bar Association, the winners of the first Hudson Firm Fives tournament last October, return to defend their crown? Or will another law firm manage to fight their way to the final to win on penalties this year? It\'s time to sign up for the Hudson Firm Fives and find out.

Tournament Details
Date: Friday 5th October
Time: Kick-off 3pm
Venue: The World of Football, Corn Exchange Village
Newmarket Street, Edinburgh
Buffet: 6.30pm
Cost per team: £115

The new football season is now just a few weeks away and the anticipation of who is going to win Scotland’s major trophies is beginning to build. Who’s name will be on the Premier League Trophy? Rangers or Celtic? Who’s ribbons will adorn the Scottish Cup? Celtic or Rangers? The captain of which team will lift the CIS Scottish League Cup? Rangers or Celtic?
Scotland’s professional football ranks may have become a two-horse race, but that can’t be said about the Hudson Firm Fives tournament, certainly after last year’s inaugural competition saw at least five teams in with a genuine shout of carrying away the silverware.
Eventually, the team from the Glasgow Bar Association was victorious after a heart-stopping penalty shootout against gallant runner-up MacRoberts.
But will GBA be prepared to defend their crown this year as the call for entries to this year’s Hudson Firm Fives goes out.
Legal recruitment specialists Hudson are again supporting the tournament and this year we are looking to make it even bigger and even better.
Last year’s tournament had 16 teams fighting for the right to say they are ‘simply the best’ but this year we want 20 teams to go head to head.
As in last year’s tournament, the format will see teams of seven players (including two subs per team) playing in four leagues of five teams for the right to progress through to the quarter finals.
The top two teams in each league will go through to the quarter final stage and it will become a knock out tournament from there on until one team can stand victorious holding aloft the Hudson Firm Fives Trophy.
All matches will be ten-minutes in duration and officiated by qualified referees at the World of Football indoor pitches at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange. And after last year’s fisticuffs between two leading law firms the refs will be fully briefed to send any angry young men or women to the stands immediately. And what’s more, any players showing dissent will not be invited to enjoy drinks and buffet in the Sports Bar with the rest of the teams at which time the winners trophy will be presented.
So, if you dream of out pacing Pagan Osborne down the wing to slot home your hat trick or you fantatsise of nutmegging Morton Fraser to go clear through on goal then you need to get a team together for the Hudson Firm Fives.
The cost to enter the tournament per team is £115, which includes all pitch fees, trophies (if you’re good enough to win one, that is) and the post tournament buffet.
