Philip Rodney, chairman of Burness presented a cheque for £111,000 to Capability Scotland, raised during its Ben Nevis Challenge, which involved teams of six being navigated to the top of the mountain led by their disabled team leaders in what was the first ever wheelchair led ascent of Ben Nevis – a five mile hike to the 4,400ft summit.
The Ben Nevis Challenge was the brainchild of Rodney and ex-SAS and BBC Beyond Boundaries presenter Ken Hames, and took place on 31st May this year.
“It was an amazing achievement in itself to make this wheelchair ascent of Ben Nevis. It was one of the most exciting days of my life," said Rodney.
"To raise £111,000, and exceed our £100k target, for two of the most prominent disability charities in the process made it even more worthwhile. These goals were achieved through teamwork; and I have to thank Ken Hames in particular, without whom this would not have been possible. I am immensely proud of all those who took part, including those at Burness who contributed in hundreds of different ways.”
