Scotland's chief officers yesterday moved to minimise the growing disquiet over the reliability of three commonly used speed detection devices - by telling all forces they are now fine to use. In a move seen by legal experts as an attempt to stave off a host of appeals against speeding convictions and compensation claims, the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (Acpos) suddenly withdrew advice to forces to stop using the speed scanners because of perceived reliability problems when used with the new digital Airwave police radios.
