Law Commission publishes consumer remedies feedback
The Scottish Law Commission has published a summary of the 53 responses to their November 2008 consultation on simplifying the law on consumer remedies for faulty goods.
The summary highlights that UK consumers are currently entitled to reject faulty goods and obtain a refund, providing they act “within a reasonable time”.
“The responses we received show that there is widespread support for keeping the right to a refund, among both consumer and business groups. It is thought to be a simple, well understood remedy which prevents consumers from becoming locked into a cycle of failed repairs," said Lord Drummond Young, Chairman of the Scottish Law Commission.
"In the current economic climate, consumer confidence is crucial. Our consultees argue that retaining the right to reject bolsters such confidence."
The Commission will consider these responses and provide a report of recommendations to Government next year.
