The Times newspaper has reported that London Police officers subjected suspects to waterboarding. The reports came to light amidst a major anti-corruption inquiry.

The torture claims include accusations that officers fabricated evidence and stole suspects’ property.

The investigation centres around officers based in Enfield, North London. The waterboarding claims follow the death of a man during the G20 protests who was attacked by riot police.

The  "Independent" Police Complaints Commission is examining the conduct of six officers involved in drug raids in November. The case was abandoned when the Crown Prosecution Service said it would not have been in the public interest to proceed. The Times reports that revealing the torture claims would have compromised the criminal investigation into the six officers.
