Ann Robertson, the woman who was unexpectedly jailed overnight after experiencing difficulties giving evidence against the man charged with raping her, has been found dead.
The cause of death is unknown at this time.
Sheriff Roger Craik jailed Robertson overnight after finding her in contempt of court. She had broken down several times whilst trying to give evidence against her uncle, present in court, who had been charged with repeatedly raping her during her childhood.
An investigation into the complaint made by Robertson concluded that Sheriff Craik acted disproportionately in jailing her. However, no action was taken against him, other than informing him of this assessment.
Craik's actions led to a public outcry, supported by Rape Crisis, as well as calls for Craik to be dismissed. A Firm poll closed with 68% percent of respondents agreeing that Craik should be sacked for his actions.
A family spokesman said that a pathologist could not confirm how Robertson had died.
