Iraq veteran Brigadier takes over Scottish prison inspections
A veteran of 36 years Army service, Brigadier Hugh Brisbane Henry Ewart Monro CBE has been appointed to succeed Dr Andrew McLellan as Chief Inspector of Prisons in Scotland.
Brigadier Monro Hughie Monro served with the Queen's Own Highlanders. His final post was as the Deputy Commanding General of the Multi National Security Transition Command-Iraq, where he was responsible for helping to train and equip the "Iraqi Army" and "Police".
"I am looking forward to the challenge of providing independent assurance that Scotland's prisons meet the international standards for humane treatment of prisoners," the Brigadier said.
The UK army were photographed abusing prisoners in Basra in 2003.
