A "determined sexual predator" who carried out a series of assaults on six women, in addition to a 14 year old girl, in Aberdeen has been sentenced to twelve years imprisonment.

Lord Pentland said the sentence passed on Ekene Angelbat Anoliefo "must reflect the abhorrence that society feels towards persons like you who prey on women in this way and who are willing to resort to violence and rape for their own sexual gratification."

“Ekene Angelbat Anoliefo, you stand convicted by the jury (firstly) of a series of incidents involving the assault, molestation and harassment of six separate women and a female child in the streets of Aberdeen over a period extending from the autumn of 2007 to the summer of 2008," he said.

"On one occasion you physically assaulted a woman, on a number of other occasions you made offensive and indecent sexual remarks to various women and on yet another you made such remarks to a girl of only 14 years, attempted to kiss her and offered her cigarettes, alcohol and cannabis. From the evidence I heard at the trial, it is clear to me that your menacing behaviour caused substantial fear, alarm and distress to the victims, to all of whom you were a complete stranger. Your clear intention appears to have been to lure your victims back to your house for the purpose of forcing them to have sex with you. Fortunately, on these occasions your plans were thwarted by the good sense and presence of mind of the various complainers and on one occasion by the intervention of other members of the public.

"In addition to these serious offences, you have been convicted of the cruel and degrading rape of a young woman whom you detained against her will in your car after you had pretended to help her late at night. You then brutally ravished her whilst forcing her to see pornographic images which you downloaded from the internet on your computer. It was clear from that victim’s evidence in court (which you falsely alleged to be untrue) that her ordeal at your hands has caused her to suffer major and lasting problems of anxiety and great distress.

"You are, in my judgement, a dangerous and determined sexual predator who has not the slightest respect for women. The sentence I impose must reflect the abhorrence that society feels towards persons like you who prey on women in this way and who are willing to resort to violence and rape for their own sexual gratification.

"I have taken account of all that your counsel has felt able to say on your behalf and of the contents of the Social Enquiry Report, but I am myself unable to identify any mitigating considerations. I note that you have not, at any stage, expressed the slightest degree of remorse or empathy for your victims.

In the circumstances of this case it is appropriate that I impose a single cumulative sentence in respect of all the charges of which you have been convicted. That sentence will be one of 12 years’ imprisonment to run from 28 July 2008.  In view of the gravity of your crimes, I will also recommend to the Secretary of State that a Deportation Order be made against you under section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 1971, as amended”.
