The resignation of the ESPC Chief Executive Ron Smith has been announced by Robin Stimpson, the chairman of the ESPC.
The resignation will take effect in September as Smith moves on to “other interests”. A successor has not yet been named.
The announcement was accompanied by a plea for support to come from member firms, 50 of whom recently called on the entire executive management to step down over financial concerns.
“As the management of the ESPC changes over the next few months, it is important that member firms continue to support us as we make any necessary further changes to ensure the company maintains and where possible improves its support for members in a continuing difficult market,” Stimpson says.
The resignation also follows on calls for a merger with Glasgow’s GSPC, which is presently operating at a profit.
Robin Stimpson’s letter announcing the resignation can be read in full below.
“I am writing to let you know that after eight and a half years in the role of Chief Executive, Ron Smith has decided that the time is right to leave the company to develop his other interests.
“The board has accepted his resignation noting his contribution to the company over the years, and wish him well for the future.
“Ron will remain with us until around the end of September in order to allow continuity of management over the summer months and a suitable handover to an appointed successor. After September Ron has agreed to provide any support as required by the new Chief Executive, as he or she beds into the role. The board is now making arrangements to secure the services of a new chief executive.
