Crown Office refuse to deny "missing" file was destroyed

The Crown Office have refused to deny that crucial papers missing from Shirley Mckie's indictment file were destroyed.

Portions of the file relating to Shirley Mckie's prosecution "are missing", and despite repeated requests for clarification, the Crown has not explained how the loss occurred.

The Crown Office were asked to clarify whether the missing papers were lost through error or actively destroyed, and have refused to offer any clarification. A Crown Office spokesman said only that it would be inappropriate to comment further.

An earlier statement issued in respect of the missing file papers offers no explanation for their loss.
