Jamieson gives both barrels to Government mortgage assistance schemes

Former Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson has claimed the government's mortgage assistance schemes are a disaster, after it emerged that only one application had been successful.

Between January and May there were 3317 court actions for repossessions. Since it launched, no-one has received help from the Mortgage to Shared Equity rescue policy.

"Last month we found that her Mortgage to Rent scheme had just one successful application and now we find that her Mortgage to Shared Equity is a disaster," Jamieson said. The scheme was launched in March to complement the existing Mortgage to Rent package.

Five households have been eligible for consideration for the shared equity rescue scheme. A parliamentary answer from Alex Neil said : "Two have replied to say they wished to be considered for Mortgage to Rent instead, and the remaining three have still to reply."

Only one person has benefited from the Mortgage to Rent Scheme since March.
