The Scottish Government have this afternoon confirmed that they have received and are considering an application for the compassionate release of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmad Al Megrahi.

"In terms of a decision, the Treaty says that a decision would normally be made within 90 days of the request. It may take longer if further representations and considerations have to be made," the Government said in a statement.

Megrahi has been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer, and is understood to be in deteriorating health.
