In what appears to be a carefully choreographed move, Abdelbaset Ali Mohmad Al Megrahi is to drop his ongoing appeal, presently scheduled to continue in October.
A procedural hearing will take place Tuesday 18th August 2009 to consider a Minute of Abandonment lodged on Megrahis' behalf. The Firm broke the news that Megrahi had taken the decision on May 7. Our report can be read here.
The abandonment will ensure that the full circumstances of the Lockerbie event are not examined further in court.
Megrahi will therefore die whilst remaining convicted of the Lockerbie event.
