Knife edge as profession split on Practising Certificate vote
The imminent vote on the reduction of the practising certificate fee is poised on a knife edge as solicitors are split almost equally on whether to accept the proposed £100 reduction.
A poll on the Firm's website asking if solicitors will you accept the proposed £100 reduction in the practising certificate fee closed with
49% saying yes they would, and the remaining 51% claiming they would vote the motion down.
The £100 reduction was proposed by the Law Society following David Flint's motion at the recent AGM to reduce the fee to £400, following criticisms of the Society's finances.
The £100 reduction, if accepted, will reduce the Law Society's budget by around £1 million per annum. They Society have already announced a programme of voluntary redundancies and salary freezes.
The Special General Meeting takes place in Glasgow on 24 September.
