The cost of the practising certificate will be reduced by £100, following the passage of a motion at the Law Society SGM.
The net effect of the fee reduction will see the Law Society's £8 million budget cut by around £1 million.
"The Society’s Executive has reviewed every aspect of the Society’s operations in this process and has ensured that as well as delivering the £100 reduction for members it has identified savings to make the organisation more efficient going forward and this will continue to benefit the profession in succeeding years," said treasurer David McClements.
A motion asking the Society's audit committee to look into about the aborted relocation from Drumsheugh Gardens was amended prior to the SGM by the Society, who instead proposed that external auditors reviewed the finances of the move. External auditors Henderson Loggie will now review the project.
An external review had been opposed by Alistair Bonnington, who said that bypassing the audit committee was suspicious.
