Law Society adds input to Legal Services Bill consultation
The Law Society have submitted written evidence to the Parliament as part of the consultation on the legal services bill. Written evidence from President Ian Smart and Chief Executive Lorna Jack will follow on 15 December.
“We are pleased that the Legal Services (Scotland) Bill appears to be in line with the Society’s policy in that it aims to improve access to high quality legal services within a competitive market," said President Ian Smart.
“The key will be to establish a regulatory framework that ensures public protection, maintains quality and protects the independence of legal services in Scotland.”
The Society added in a statement that it was undertaking a reform of its structures "to ensure it could operate as a modern and effective regulator in a reformed marketplace. Applications to become an approved regulator will be made after the legislation completes its passage through parliament next year."
