Jamie Millar, Vice President of the Law Society has been confirmed as the next President of the Law Society, succeeding Ian Smart in May 2010. Cameron Ritchie will be installed as Vice President.
“I am delighted with the election results. Both Jamie and Cammie are very able and experienced Council members and, with their very different legal backgrounds, will bring their knowledge and expertise to how the Society moves forward," said Smart.
"Their terms in office are likely to see the first applicants to become Licensed Legal Services Providers once the Legal Services (Scotland) Bill has been passed.
“The profession is now broadly made up of three areas, the larger commercial firms, in house and high street firms, with around a third of profession working in each. That mirrors the practice experience of Jamie, with his large firm, commercial and property law background, Cammie as a senior Procurator Fiscal, and myself, as a high street solicitor. This is in addition to the wider Council, which represents members from geographical constituencies as well as practice areas.”
