"Grave concern" over Legal Services Bill, says Anderson
Solicitor of the Year Gilbert Anderson has told the Parliament's Justice Committee that he has "grave concern" over the implications of the Legal Services Bill in his submission to them as part of their deliberations into the Bill.
"The public interest demands legal services should only be provided by a strong and genuinely independent legal profession which is thoroughly trained and disciplined in the practice of law," he told them.
Anderson will appear in person to give evidence during the course of the day.
The employment union Unite has also submitted its view to the Committee, stating that the Bill would prioritise profit ahead of justice.
"The provisions of the Legal Services Bill will create an open-door for third parties with only profit on their agenda to influence, shape and dominate our justice system," it said.
