Parole to be abolished as sentencing overhaul proposed
Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill is proposing to abolsih early release for all offenders in a large scale overhaul of sentencing.
The Justice Department confirmed the plans to abolsih discounting and parole.
"We are committed to replacing the current arbitrary system of early release with one which is driven by the individual offender’s risk to the community and not the length of the sentence," the department confirmed.
"Under our plans, every single prisoner, regardless of the length of their sentence will be subjected to restriction for the entire length of the sentence. Risk can never be eliminated but it can be reduced."
