WS Society hosts own debate on ABS to rival Law Society drive
The WS Society is hold its own debate on the Legal Services (Scotland) Bill as the Law Society undertakes a countrywide roadshow with the same objective.
The WS Society Chief Executive Robert Pirrie, who has spoken of his concerns over the Society's representational role, said it was necessary for the WS Society to "facilitate open discussion."
“Whilst the Law Society of Scotland has its own series of road shows and has a special general meeting later this month, it is part of the WS Society’s purpose as an independent membership body to facilitate open discussion and assist solicitors to make their views known. We have done this before on ABS and related issues and we’re doing so again in response to renewed debate,” he said.
In evidence to the Scottish Parliament, the WS Society asked whether it would be tenable for Law Society to continue to represent as well as regulate solicitors if the bill is passed.
