A list of the top legal tweeters in Scotland has been published by online marketing firm I-COM following an analysis of the Twitter habits of law firms across the UK.

The survey ranks the “most active” firms, and places specialist commercial lawyers Harper Macleod (@HarperMacleod) in the top spot. Harper Macleod utilise Twitter extensively and promote blogging posts via multiple accounts.

However, coming a close second is Twitter pioneer Brian Inkster, (@brianinkster) the first solicitor in Scotland to use Twitter, who utilises the medium via several dedicated accounts. Trainee of the Year Louise King of Inksters also tweets as @louisefk

Harper Macleod's Chris Davidson told The Firm: "As a means of communication, social media fits well with our firm’s brand and reputation as a young, dynamic business."

"In this current difficult economic environment it is vital that we get our brand working harder for us than ever before, and having a well maintained presence across a range of social media destinations, including Twitter, that are relevant to our target market can help us generate greater returns from our brand." he added.

Mike Blackburn, operations director of I-COM, said: “It’s not just marketing and digital companies that have spotted the business opportunities that come from engaging with influencers and potential clients on the social network.”

I-COM added that of the Scottish top 5, Harper Macleod and Inksters would be nudging on the Top 10 within the UK if the list had been combined.

The survey named Woolley & Co as the most adept of the sociable micro bloggers, classing the firm as having the optimal mix of influence and audience size. The full English list of top tweeters is below:
