Police investigate former referee in sectarian rant probe

Strathclyde police have confirmed they are making inquiries into an alleged sectarian rant  posted on the website of a former English Premiership referee.

The posting appeared on the website of ex-referee Jeff Winter, which was suspended this morning by the web hosting company.

The comments were posted on December 30, and have since been widely circulated.

The posting made reference to Celtic Park, and the recent football match held there between Glasgow clubs Rangers FC and Celtic.

Mr Winter is understood to be travelling in New Zealand and has not made any public comment.
