MSPs won’t be thanking Scottish Conservative leader David McLetchie as they are to come under closer scrutiny over expenses in the future after the recent scandal surrounding his use of taxis for non-parliamentary business. A dossier of McLetchie’s expenses revealed yesterday (Weds, 13 October) that he had claimed £11,500 for taxi journeys taken between 1999 and 2004, with £5,000 of those claims not detailing where he was travelling to. Scottish information officer Kevin Dunion forced McLetchie to reveal details of his journeys and this showed that around £900 worth of his claims were for journeys to his former law firm Tods Murray.
