Jackson confirmed as judge for Law Awards of Scotland

Leading QC Gordon Jackson has been signed up as one of the members of the judging panel for this year’s Law Awards of Scotland.
Despite being one of Scotland’s highest profile QCs, Jackson is currently winding down his legal practice and during the summer intends to shift his focus full-time into the political arena where he is currently the MSP for Glasgow Govan.
Called in 1979, went on to hold the position of advocate depute from 1987-90, becoming a QC in 1990.
He has hit the headlines in recent years after continuing to carry out his legal work and earning in excess of £160,000 in legal aid payments while also being an MSP. Increasing political pressure has led him to scale down his legal activities.
Jackson will sit on a judging panel that also includes Professor Gerry Maher of the Scottish Law Commission, Rosalind McInnes of BBC Scotland, Professor Peter Robson of Strathclyde University, Robert Pirrie of The WS Society and Innes Christie of Aegon UK.
The judges will meet in Glasgow on Tuesday 23 May to consider all of the reports submitted by those law firms that were invited to enter this year’s awards. Only those firms that made it through then first round of research among Scottish client companies made it through to the second and final round of judging.
The winners will be announced at the gala awards being hosted by Donald Findlay, QC, on Thursday 14 September at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow.
