Maclays partner joins Fyfe Ireland to head up new financial legal services department
Fyfe Ireland has scored a coup over Scottish big four firm Maclay Murray & Spens by appointing form Maclays corporate partner Gerry Kerr to head up a new financial legal services offer for its clients. Kerr has transferred his financial services legal practice to Fyfe Ireland from Maclay Murray Spens and he will now provide legal support and advice to asset management companies, their investment funds, to pension funds and other institutional investors. His clients include Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Janus Capital International, Vanguard and Standard Life. Recent transactional experience includes overseeing the due diligence associated with the acquisition by Mellon Bank of Walter Scott & Partners, one of 2 large deals Kerr introduced to Maclays in 2006. With over 20 years private practice and in-house experience, including senior roles at Franklin Templeton in Edinburgh, JP Morgan in London and Union Bançaire Priveé in Geneva, Kerr has been brought in to head up a new financial services division at Fyfe Ireland. With financial services outperforming any other sector in Scotland, Fyfe Ireland’s managing partner, Greig Honeyman, said “firms like Fyfe Ireland which employ specialist financial services partners like Kerr, are well placed to exploit this growth opportunity. “Our size and flexible structure means we are in a unique position to offer our clients specialist legal services, in this case financial services. In all our specialisms, we aim to focus as much care and attention on high client service levels as on legal technical skills and business knowledge”. Honeyman said, “Gerry brings with him a wealth of experience and is well networked in the financial community here in Scotland, as well as in the rest of the UK and on the international stage. We are delighted that he is joining us and I am sure he will play a significant role in the future expansion of the firm.”
