Teenager Luke Mitchell, whose appeal against conviction for the murder of girlfriend Jodi Jones in 2003 was rejected on Friday, is understood to be taking his case to the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commisson. The SCCRC have the power to refer his case back to the High Court for a further appeal if they conclude that a miscarriage of justice may have occurred.
Mitchell was convicted on a case based largely on circumstancial evidence, and his appeal was based on seven grounds which -he argued- cast reasonable doubt on his guilt. However the High Court under Lord Hamilton rejected all seven grounds and upheld the conviction.
