Burness has appointed as a partner Lorna Finlayson from the London office of international firm Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP.
Finlayson specialises in financial services regulatory law and will be starting with Burness in July.
In her most recent role at Weil Gotshal, Lorna provided financial services regulatory advice on a broad spectrum of issues as well as supporting Weil Gotshal’s corporate and securitisation teams on a number of high profile transactions. Previously, she was head of legal with Direct Line’s financial services division.
Her appointment adds to the recently reported arrival of a new property team from McClure Naismith and MacRoberts; and Scottish Construction partners, Fenella Mason and Sandra Cassels from DLA Piper.
Philip Rodney, chairman at Burness, said: “The financial services sector powers Scotland. The addition of a top flight partner with City firm experience focussed specifically on regulatory issues further strengthens the firm’s ability to provide a comprehensive service to our clients in this specialised sector and defines ourselves in the market. Lorna’s appointment, on the back of Mark Ellis joining us from Travers Smith, demonstrates our ability to attract top legal talent from the City of London to the firm.”
